The Spur Hydro Teaching Lab has new research experiences in the form of four hands-on STEM kits designed at CSU to engage middle and high school students in class sizes up to 30. "Going Viral" is on virus transmission and how the immune system responds. "Soils of Fire" examines soil from in and around the largest wildfire in Colorado history and shows how carbon moves. "Salts of the Earth" studies the salinity of groundwater used for irrigation in the fertile cropland of the Arkansas Valley of eastern Colorado. "From Forests to Faucets" models the partitioning of water infiltrating or running off of hill slope before and after fire and also models the trans-divide water diversion of the Big Thompson Water Project. In this session we will show you how the kits are used on field trips to Spur and how they can be checked out for use at your school.
