Did you know…water in the western United States begins in Colorado? Colorado supplies water to 18 states plus Mexico. Water is life and without it we would have no agriculture. This session will feature a brief overview of western region water issues – which are incredibly fascinating, highly unique, and vastly different than other regions of the country – including what it means to be a headwaters state, how water flows and is managed by Basin Roundtable watersheds, and an introduction to water law and how farmers and ranchers need water rights to grow crops. Colorado Agriculture in the Classroom staff will also share resources and hands-on activities to make learning about water fun for students and teachers.
